Abstract

In this research, a new vortex search algorithm with gradient-based approximation (VS-G) is proposed to deal with the optimization of the fore part of KCS container ship. The VS-G algorithm shows a faster convergence towards the global optimum than the original VS algorithm and has the ability to jump out of the local minimum. A significant resistance reduction is achieved and numerical results show the effectiveness of the optimization procedure.
