Abstract
Demographic development leads to an exponential increase of cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, innovations in conservative and invasive treatment modalities add to an increase of differentiated therapy. Both developments lead to increased specialization of vascular specialties. The concept of the Hamburg model implements this development by introduction of an organ-orientated clinic for vascular medicine, located within the heart center of the University of Hamburg-Eppendorf.
