Weltweit ist das Zervixkarzinom das zweithäufigste Malignom der Frau bezüglich Inzidenz und Mortalität und wird in diesen Kriterien nur vom Mammakarzinom übertroffen. Mehr als 471000 neue Fälle werden jährlich diagnostiziert, wobei sowohl in den Entwicklungsländern als auch in den Industriestaaten vor allem Patientinnen aus niedrigeren sozio- ökonömischen Gruppen erkranken [17].
