Background and objectives
This article gives a review of important parameters of cancer registration, which are regularly published by the German Centre for Cancer Registry Data (ZfKD) and cancer registries of the federal states.
Methods and results
Using colorectal cancer as an example, the incidence and mortality rates, standardized incidence and mortality ratios (SIR and SMR), prevalence, morbidity and mortality risks, survival probabilities and completeness are defined and interpreted.
The methods shown should help the reader in the interpretation of routine publications on cancer registry data in Germany.
