Abstract
Virtual microscopy will revolutionize pathology similar to the changes in radiological imaging by digitization and this holds especially true for oncological diagnostics. The digitization will simplify and speed up cooperation among pathologists. The intensified use of quantitative methods for the assessment of morphological changes will lead to less variability and increased reproducibility. Virtual microscopy offers pathologists the opportunity to take part in interdisciplinary tumor boards in a more active and direct manner.
