Abstract

Using an educational needs analysis, the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) has taken the initiative in developing an educational program and core curriculum for a post-basic course in oncological nursing. Practice-based education is a pivotal point in the program development. Other practice related topics such as hematological toxicity, a core curricula for the care of elderly cancer patients and new therapies are a few of the present EONS training projects. At present, enormous possibilities for cancer nursing are opening in the health-care system. This can be attributed not only to increasing treatment possibilities and improvements in cancer survival, but also to the Bologna agreement for the scrutinization and better regulation of professional studies.
