Arbeitsgemeinschaft Urologische Onkologie (AUO) in der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft e.V.

Zusammenfassung

Mit derzeit knapp 85.000 uroonkologischen Neuerkrankungen pro Jahr stellt die Uroonkologie einen wesentlichen Bestandteil in der urologischen Tätigkeit dar. Am 29. Juni 1989 wurde die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Urologische Onkologie (AUO) in der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft gegründet, um diesem Teilgebiet die notwendige Aufmerksamkeit widmen zu können. Bereits zur Gründung steckte sich die AUO das hohe Ziel, Forschungstätigkeit in der Uroonkologie unter einem Dach zu versammeln und für eine hohe Qualität klinischer Studien zu sorgen.

Abstract

With more than 85,000 newly diagnosed cancers per year, uro-oncology alone represents in Germany a significant part of the field of oncology. Therefore, the Task Group for Uro-Oncology (Association of Urogenital Oncology, AUO) in the German Cancer Association (DKG e.V.) was founded in 1989 to enforce high-quality research on urological cancer. The predominant aim of its activities since then was especially to improve the quality in clinical cancer studies. The board of AUO reviews, certifies, and gives accreditation to study protocols with respect to GCP standards, feasibility of realization, and scientific impact of the study objectives. To support enrolment of patients, the AUO initiated a study group of more than 85 clinical centers and publishes timely details about the different studies in appropriate media. Moreover, the members of the AUO board organize seminars, scientific meetings, and pharmaceutical hearings. In this article the organization’s structure is described in detail. Several graphics demonstrate the pleiotropic works of the AUO that were carried out over the years and present data on the outcome of the studies.
