Abstract

Cu2+-doped Li2CaAl4(PO4)4F4 nanophosphor has been synthesized using solid-state reaction method at room temperature. The prepared phosphor is characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), optical absorption, photoluminescence (PL), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) techniques. From powder XRD pattern, the evaluated average crystallite size is in the order of nanoscale. Morphological studies of prepared sample were analyzed using SEM and TEM. The optical absorption spectrum reveals that Cu2+ enters into the tetragonally distorted octahedral site in the host lattice. Spin-Hamiltonian, crystal field and bonding parameters are evaluated from the EPR spectrum. The PL spectrum of Cu2+-doped Li2CaAl4(PO4)4F4 phosphor gives emission peaks in the UV and blue region. The FT-IR spectrum exhibited bands which are attributed to vibrations of phosphate ions, P–O–H and water molecules.
