Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
The BioBiteCorrector® (BBC) is a fixed passive rigid intermaxillary non-compliance class II appliance that guides the mandible directly into bilateral neutral occlusion. The BBC has a strong functional similarity with the Herbst appliance; however, it is directly fixed on the wire of the multibracket appliances. The aim of the study was to evaluate the skeletal and dentoalveolar effects of the BBC.
Patients and methods
Cephalometric radiographs were performed at pretreatment on the day the BBC was installed (T0) and at posttreatment after removal of the complete multibracket apparatus (T1) on 20 patients with a mean age of 14.5 years and mean treatment duration wearing the BBC of 7.2 months. The cephalometric radiographs were analyzed for standard measurements and included SNA, SNB, ANB, Wits as well as special values, which measured the distance of various points from the sella to the occlusion plane OLp.
Results
Significant alterations of the position of the pogonion and mandibular length were observed in the study indicating that skeletal effects occur when using the BBC appliance.
