Abstract

Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is a new criterion for assessing oral diseases as well as therapeutic effects in dentistry. It complements the clinical parameters of oral health by the patient perception of oral health, thus characterizing the subjective aspect of oral health. In comparison to adults only little effort has been made to document OHRQoL in children or adolescents, although the issue has recently gained more attention from oral health researchers. Meanwhile, there is the opportunity to measure OHRQoL in children and adolescents aged 11–14 years not only internationally but also in the German-speaking countries by using the child perceptions questionnaire. In this article this instrument and its application possibilities are presented.
