Lower Oligocene K-Ar ages of high-K calc-alkaline and shoshonite rocks from the North Dinarides in Bosnia

High-K calc-alkaline and shoshonite rocks have been interpreted to be the oldest Tertiary post-orogenic volcanic rocks in the Vardar Zone of the North Dinarides, although until recently no radiometric ages had been available. This paper reports on K-Ar whole-rock ages of 30.4–28.5 Ma of five samples from the North Dinarides. The rocks appear to be contemporaneous with both shoshonites (latites) from the southeastern Vardar Zone and with Periadriatic tonalites.


K-reiche kalkalkalische und shoshonitische Gesteine werden als die ältesten tertiären post-orogenen Vulkanite in der Vardar-Zone der nördlichen Dinariden interpretiert, obwohl bis vor kurzem keine radiometrischen Alter verfügbar waren. Diese Arbeit bringt K-Ar Gesamtgesteinsalter von 30,4 bis 28,5 Ma von fünf Proben aus den nördlichen Dinariden. Diese Gesteine scheinen gleichaltrig mit Shoshoniten (Latiten) aus der südöstlichen Vardar-Zone und mit periadriatischen Tonaliten zu sein.
