Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, has been involved in the research of materials for electrochemical power sources for more than 50 years. In connection with these research activities, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Technology initiated in the year 2000 a series of internationally oriented conferences under the name “Advanced Batteries, Accumulators, and Fuel Cells”. They focus on advances in science and technology in the field of electrochemical processes and energy storage (batteries, accumulators, supercapacitors, and fuel cells), energy generation from renewable sources, photovoltaic systems, nanomaterials for electrochemical power sources, and aspects of corrosion. Every year, the latest discoveries and trends are added to the conference program.

This special issue of Monatshefte für Chemie—Chemical Monthly contains 23 full-text papers in connection with presentations at the 24th International Conference on Advanced Batteries, Accumulators, and Fuel Cells, which took place from August 27 to 30, 2023 in Brno, Czech Republic. All papers published in this journal have been peer reviewed according to Monatshefte für Chemie and additional to these 23 selected papers published in this issue extended abstracts of conference lectures and posters are available at www.aba-brno.cz/download/2023-ABAF-Proceeding.pdf.

We would like to thank our main sponsors, ČEZ, Pragolab and Renishaw and all other sponsors, BioLogic, EVC Group, EV Battery, and ChromSpec for supporting our conference. We also thank the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) for sponsoring the “Best Poster of Young Scientists” Competition. Finally, we thank Monatshefte für Chemie—Chemical Monthly for their organization and assistance in publishing this special issue “Selected contributions in Advanced Batteries, Accumulators, and Fuel Cells”.
