Die Schule Am Himmel ist ein Versuch, Gesellschaft und Lernen anders zu denken. Dies benötigt in erster Linie die Haltung, alle Lernenden als Individuen zu sehen und als solche wertzuschätzen. Die Lernenden werden in ihrer individuellen Situation abgeholt und Ressourcen aktivierend begleitet. Das Drehtürmodell am Vormittag ermöglicht es, mittels individueller Stundenpläne, je nach Stärken in andere Gruppen zu wechseln. Die Lernenden erfahren, wie wichtig Selbsteinschätzung ist und auch, damit umzugehen, wenn sie sich selbst überschätzen. Ein grundlegendes Ziel ist es, dass jedes Kind lernt, „sich in seiner Haut wohlzufühlen“, seinen eigenen Geist und Körper beruhigen zu können, Selbstvertrauen zu entwickeln, sich emotionale Intelligenz anzueignen und mit unterschiedlichen Stressfaktoren umgehen zu können. Daher „menschelt es“ in der Schule. Ein Sich-Ausprobieren, ein Sich-als-Teil-der-Gesellschaft fühlen dürfen, Beiträge zum Gemeinsamen leisten dürfen … Das will, darf und muss geübt werden.

Abstract

You and I, we learn together—Together we are strong!

To think of society and learning differently is the approach and philosophy behind the School Am Himmel. The attitude to focus on and to appreciate each person as an individual, to see the strength in everybody is the working basis.

Especially at the beginning, each pupil is intensely observed in order to find the best way of activating the individual’s resources. This leads to the possibility to move on to higher classes in certain subjects of interest. It is evident that pupils develop a good sense of assessing their work, of developing self-confidence and ways of dealing with possible hubris.

To get to know oneself, to find out who you are, about your own strengths and weaknesses, to find ways of dealing with both, to be at odds with oneself, these are the fundamental goals for each pupil. All adults see it as their inevitable goal to help pupils to make the most of their cognitive and emotional intelligence or rather to help develop it.

Obviously, there are situations in the School Am Himmel that immediately set the focus on social learning. This spurs well thought out and well considered interventions by all people concerned. To be part of society, to find out what the distinct contribution to society can be, have to be practiced to become internalized.
