Zusammenfassung
Die arterielle Hypertonie ist im Kindesalter eine diagnostische und therapeutische Herausforderung. Die erste Blutdruckmessung sollte bei Kindern ab dem dritten Lebensjahr erfolgen. Bei prähypertensiven Kindern sollten nichtmedikamentöse Maßnahmen wie Gewichtsreduktion, ausgewogene Ernährung und sportliche Betätigung zum Einsatz kommen. Bei Kindern mit arterieller Hypertonie muss eine medikamentöse Therapie zur Blutdrucksenkung eingeleitet werden. Zudem gilt es bei diesen Patienten, Endorganschäden in Auge, Herz und Nieren auszuschließen. Da die arterielle Hypertonie einen der stärksten Risikofaktoren für die Entwicklung atherosklerotischer Gefäßveränderungen im Kindes- und Erwachsenenalter darstellt, muss sie konsequent therapiert und untersucht werden.
