Wenn wir von der Würde eines Menschen sprechen, geht es letztlich um das menschliche Selbstverständnis, um Sinn und Inhalt menschlichen Lebens. Dass der Begriff der „Würde“ innerhalb der Gesellschaft nicht immer in derselben Weise interpretiert wurde und wird, zeigen teils heftig geführte moralethische Diskussionen um Recht auf Leben und Sterben in Würde, vor allem auch dort, wo schwere Behinderung das Leben beeinträchtigt.
