Abstract.

The review discusses the application of high performance separation techniques for the characterization of organic materials in historical objects. Each section is focused on a different class of materials and is preceded by a short introduction about the specificity of analysis for the needs of archaeometry. The work aims to compare different separation methods and different detectors, mainly from the point of view of selectivity and sensitivity of the analysis, and to present future perspectives for the application of high performance separation techniques in archaeometry.
