This book is the fifth volume in the series Topics in Bone Biology. It presents up to date knowledge in the mechanisms of cancer in bone.

The majority of the book covers advances in knowledge in the basic science of skeletal cancer including mechanisms of metastasis, the role of the bone microenvironment, the role of inflammatory cytokines and bone pain.

The final four chapters are devoted to treatment of bone cancer: hormonal therapies, systemic agents, allogenic bone marrow transplant and radiosurgery.

The book is well written, extensively referenced and comprehensive. It has been well edited, and chapters are of a consistent layout. Whilst the majority of the authors are North American, there are a number of European contributors making the book representative of current thinking.

The book will make a good addition to a departmental library in any unit managing skeletal cancer.
