This book represents a summary of the work of Jose Cañadell at Pamplona on epiphysiolysis in malignant bone tumours.

The book introduces the subject by discussing the treatment of paediatric bone tumours, the surgical options available and the role of the growth plate as a barrier to tumour spread.

Their meticulous approach to preoperative planning is outlined, and the fact that the procedure is not suitable for all is emphasised.

The surgical procedure of physeal distraction prior to surgical resection is explained along with indications, contraindications, clinical results and complications.

There is a final very interesting chapter on questions that have been raised by others at scientific meetings and the responses to them.

The book is very interesting and the technique is fascinating and well explained. I suspect, however, that it will make a good addition to libraries in bone tumour units rather than having an appeal to trainees or orthopaedic surgeons in general. The only downside is there are a number of spelling mistakes in some of the chapters.
