Hip fracture in young heroin addict man with concomitant soft tissue abscess

Abstract

Herein we present a rare case of interotrochanteric fracture in a heroin addicted young man after a simple fall from his height. In addition, the presence of concomitant soft tissue abscess near the fracture area made the case more complex. We report the successful treatment of hip fracture with a concomitant soft tissue abscess by intramedullary nailing, antibiotics and methadone, without reccurent hip infection, in a heroin addicted man. We also discuss the complications of soft tissue and osteopenia in heroin abusers.

Fracture de hanche chez un jeune homme héroïnomane avec abcès simultané des tissus mous

Résumé

Nous présentons un rare cas de fracture inter-trochantérienne chez un jeune héroïnomane survenue après une simple chute de sa hauteur. De plus, la présence concomitante d’un abcès des tissus mous près du foyer de fracture rendit le cas plus complexe. Nous rapportons le succès du traitement par enclouage centro-médullaire verrouillé dans ce cas, associé à une antibiothérapie et à de la méthadone, sans récidive de l’infection. Une discussion sur les complications des tissus mous et sur l’ostéopénie chez les héroïnomanes fait suite.
