Dear Editor,

There were some concerns raised in a Letter to the Editor with regard to our above-mentioned manuscript. We found some of the points raised in the Letter to be significant and have prepared a response to justify the points of concern raised. Please find the response to the Letter to the Editor below.

We read with great interest the above-mentioned article [Krishnan V, Rajasekaran S, Aiyer SN, Kanna R, Shetty AP (2017) Clinical and radiological factors related to the presence of motor deficit in lumbar disc prolapse: a prospective analysis of 70 consecutive cases with neurological deficit. Eur Spine J 26(10):2642–2649]. We extend our appreciation to the authors for this study. The article was discussed at length at our weekly journal club and we seek clarification on few points regarding the message being sent out by the article and to present our viewpoint.
