Abstract
The spring-back deformation of a head-mounting-block (HMB) after ball-swaging was analytically solved from equations of elasticity. The analytical solution helps to elucidate the mechanism of HMB deformation after swaging and provides insight for designing an adequate HMB with reduced spring-back. This study estimates the displacement of the HMB tip caused by spring-back after swaging, taking the plastic deformation of the HMB into consideration. A suitable boss radius is also discussed.
