Summary
Due to the lower fuel consumption and reduced exhaust emissions the efforts of the automotive industry increase steadily to realise hybrid and electric cars. Latest developments in the field of electrical energy storage technologies and innovative electro-mechanical propulsion concepts with appropriate control concepts ensure optimal operating strategies with respect to high performance and reliability in modern vehicles. Furthermore, sophisticated drive components with small losses offer the possibility to improve the energy efficiency of the entire drive train. Serial as well as combined hybrid concepts allow reduced emissions down to zero during appropriate operation modes, e.g. by turning off the combustion engine during intermittent periods. The design and the development of innovative electrical key components are challenges that have to be met for realising alternative vehicles, however, the advantages of such vehicles are promising. Due to the high complexity of such hybrid drive trains comprehensive investigations in the concept and design phase are essential to realise highly optimised and fine tuned hybrid drives. The vehicle simulation plays a significant role in this context, since it allows an evaluation of different concepts as well as the specification of different drive components in an early phase. Therefore, the vehicle simulation of hybrid and electric vehicle concepts is a major tool in the development process of future key components in vehicles. This work focuses on the vehicle simulation for optimisation of such electric components. In that context, different drive concepts are investigated considering electrical energy storage technologies, electrical machines and the given vehicle application. Finally, simulation results of ongoing research projects are given and compared to measurement data.
