Abstract
The crude ore characteristics vary according to the evolution of the mine’s depth, hence a more fine-combed feed is processed in the beneficiation plant. Simultaneously, the response of the markets has been favourable towards concentrates of higher quality, almost completely deprived of sulphur and/or quartz. Recent developments display a tendency in regards to concentrates, obtained via flotation assortments, rather than products attained via density separation, especially in regards to barite concentrates.
The alteration of crude ore characteristics stems from the re-construction of the spiral concentrator for the beneficiation of particles smaller than 1,2 mm. For the barite flotation, capacities are increased via a second line and the addition of a scavenger. Thus, operational capacity, output of barite concentrate and overall efficiency of barite flotation were significantly enhanced.
The tailings of barite flotation are no longer combined with tailings of fluorite flotation into a filler flotation, but are solely processed via an adapted flotation plant, where a fluorite concentrate is produced, devoid of quartz and sulphur.
