Abstract
TIWAG (Tiroler Wasserkraft AG) constructs a new pressure shaft and a new surge tank for the existing HPP Kaunertal. This shaft with a diameter of 4.3 m and designed for an internal water pressure head of 100 bar when in service is one of the highest strained shafts of this kind in the world. Although the pressure shaft is fully steel-lined, high efforts are taken to embed the lining into the rock. To assure contact between the lining and the surrounding rock mass consolidation grouting, contact grouting and interface grouting is carried out. Based on grouting tests, parameters are defined for consolidation grouting, which was carried out systematically through boreholes in several phases in all the water-containing tunnels, chambers and shafts. After steel- or concrete lining installation contact grouting was carried out between the concrete fill and the rock. Finally the interface between the steel lining or the concrete lining and the backfill concrete was grouted with high pressure to close the thermal shrinkage gap and assure bedding of the lining. Experiences at these works will be presented in the following report.
