Summary
The project 'Large-scale deep geothermal power plants' follows a radically new approach to the exploitation of geothermal power. It relies on an underground power plant for gaining electricity from district and process heat. The concept foresees a complex mining infrastructure to construct closed systems allowing for controlled and continuous energy absorption at great depths (around 6,000 m). Currently an interdisciplinary group of experts is investigating the principal feasibility of this concept.
