Bei der Auswahl von Wirbelstromscheidern sind materialseitig Korngröße und Kornform zu bestimmen und daraus das Partikelverhalten im Sortierbereich festzulegen. Weitere, maschinentechnische Aspekte sind Verstellbarkeit von Bandsowie Rotorgeschwindigkeit und insbesondere die Verstellbarkeit des Krafteinwirkpunktes. Wird dies auch später beim Betrieb berücksichtigt, wird ein maximales Ergebnis in Sortierung und Wirtschaftlichkeit erzielt. Damit unmittelbar verbunden ist auch eine Steigerung der Verfügbarkeit der Maschine und des Gesamtprozesses. Der Wirbelstromscheider mit exzentrischem Magnetrotor erfüllt diese Voraussetzungen. Ein derartiger Vergleich unterschiedlicher Konstruktionen ermöglicht erstmalig auch, sich dem Thema Lebenszykluskosten als Entscheidungskriterium zu nähern. Es wird überaus deutlich, dass die aufwändigere und zunächst teurer erscheinende Investition die insgesamt wirtschaftlichere ist.
