Summary
The recycling of valuable metals from metal containing waste and by-products becomes more relevance from the ecological and economic point of view. Due to the increasing metal prices, residues with a low metal content which had to be landfilled in the last years are used nowadays as a secondary material in the metallurgical processes. Many of these complex input materials consist not only of nonferrous metals, iron and minerals but they have also a lot of different organic constituents. Only with a specific processing and treatment of these materials the metallurgical processes can be optimized concerning the selective element production, the metal yield and the quality of the products. In this context the Institute of Nonferrous Metallurgy carried out numerous investigations in the field of process optimization using suitable techniques and treatment of the secondary material to improve the reduction and melting behaviour.
