Abstract
We report the resolution of the hyperfine structure of the 6S 1/2-8P 1/2 Cs transition by means of laser saturation spectroscopy. This transition is anomalously weak as discussed by zu Putlitz in 1969. The metrological potentialities of this narrow line are illustrated together with a possible scheme for a direct frequency measurement.
