Zusammenfassung

Mit dem Film Gegen die Wand ist es Fatih Akin gelungen, die seelische Brüchigkeit von Migranten filmisch eindrücklich darzustellen: Der Zusammenprall der Kulturen, das Oszillieren zwischen Anpassung und Identitätssuche, zwischen Tradition und Moderne, das Ausschließende und das Integrierende. Die Tragik einer Liebe, die einerseits zufällig, andererseits berechnend zustande kommt, und letztendlich nicht gelebt werden kann, auch, weil beide Figuren mit ihren fragilen psychischen Strukturen zu viele destruktive Anteile haben. Deshalb und wegen der durch Migration verursachten Probleme können sie (noch) keine Bindung eingehen. Dies ist sehr gut sowohl in der vorwiegend männlich orientierten Sprachhaltung (vermutlich eine Überbetonung der Fantasie, nur so in der Fremde durchkommen zu können) als auch im, kulturell bedingt, unterschiedlichen Umgang mit Sexualität dargestellt.

Abstract

With his film Gegen die Wand (Against the wall) Fatih Akin was able to express the inner mental turmoil of migrants through the means of cinematography: the clash of cultures, oscillating between assimilation and the search of identity, tradition and modernity, the excluding and the integrating. The tragedy of a love which happens coincidentally as well as prefabricated and subsequently cannot be lived due to the fragile mental structures of both main figures, who also possess too many destructive, disruptive streaks. This and the myriad of problems evoked through migration makes them as yet incapable of leading relationships. This is very clearly discernible through the mainly macho (male oriented) lingo (overemphasizing the notion of being forced to being forceful when being in a new, foreign environment) as well as the culturally different ways of dealing with sexuality.
