Abstract

Tubo-ovarian abscesses, endometriosis, and extrauterine pregnancies are some of the causes that can necessitate unilateral adnexectomy. Women who have undergone unilateral adnexectomy pose a challenge for IVF treatment. Several studies have already assessed to what extent the reproductive potential of these women is limited in IVF treatment in comparison to women with two ovaries. For the most part, only conventional IVF cycles were included, while only very few studies considered ICSI cycles of women with only one ovary. The results reported are in part contradictory. This overview deals in detail with various aspects of assisted reproduction in women with only one ovary. Particular attention is given to hormonal stimulation, implantation rates, pregnancy rates, and the influence of the location of the remaining ovary.
