This article has been retracted by the Editor-in-Chief, because the number of cases of osteosarcoma reported in the article is unfeasibly high, and because the article was published without the knowledge of at least two of the authors.

The Editors of Molecular Genetics and Genomics were contacted by a reader, who pointed out that the authors of the article claimed having recruited 158 patients with osteosarcoma from Wuhan Union Hospital between 2008 and 2013 for their studies, although there had never been that many osteosarcoma cases at this hospital during this time period.

The Editors contacted the authors for an explanation. Authors Yuxiong Weng and Jianghai Chen informed the Editors that the article has been submitted without their knowledge using a fake e-mail address, and that it has been published without their approval.

The Editors of Molecular Genetics and Genomics also reached out to Wuhan Union Hospital. They received a reply from the Head of the Department of Hand Surgery at Wuhan Union Hospital, the institution where the authors stated that the research took place. He confirmed that there have not been as many osteosarcoma cases at this hospital as mentioned in the article.

Authors Yuxiong Weng and Jianghai Chen have requested a retraction of the article. The other authors of the article have not responded to the Editors.

The online version of this article contains the full text of the retracted article as electronic supplementary material.
