Abstract.
Two patients are described with acute collapse caused by pericardial effusion following central venous catheterisation. Echocardiography during resuscitation allowed prompt identification and management. Conclusion: pericardial effusion should be considered in any baby experiencing acute deterioration with a central venous catheter in place.
