Abstract

LunelleTM, an injectable estrogen/progestin contraceptive, is administered on a monthly basis and is now available as the first monthly injectable in the United States. International and US clinical trials have established its safety and confirmed its contraceptive efficacy. Fertility returns rapidly after discontinuation of injections. Studies have noted a high level of patient satisfaction with Lunelle, suggesting that monthly injectable contraception will become a first-line contraceptive option in the United States.
