Abstract
The physician’s performance is one of the most important factors for the success of a hospital. However, physicians find working conditions that support them in their ability to perform and their motivation even less often. In fact, many hospitals endanger the health of their valuable performers by structural–organizational deficits and an insufficient culture of acknowledgment. The topic burnout in hospital physicians is also gaining relevance in the scientific discussion. In this contribution, fundamental points for a critical evaluation of the workplace of the hospital are presented and possible counter measures are given, which physicians’ representatives can use to open the dialog with hospital management. Support of work-life balance, incorporation in strategic processes, and autonomy are important means to maintain the performance of all physicians.
