Abstract.

Polyurethane with built in iniferter fragments was synthesised and used to prepare poly(urethane-co-vinylpyridine). The controlled incorporation of the vinylpyridine groups was achieved by using iniferter groups. Cationomers of the block copolymers were prepared by quaternising the polyvinylpyridine groups and the ionomers were subsequently dispersed in water. The effect of varying polyurethane macroiniferter feed, polymerisation time and percent ionisation on the emulsion characteristics and the properties of the cast films were studied.
