Aktionsraum und soziales Netzwerk: Reichweite und Ressourcen der Lebensführung im Alter

Die Untersuchung geht der Frage nach, welche Faktoren den Aktionsraum alter Menschen außerhalb ihrer Wohnung bestimmen. Als Indikatoren des Aktionsraums gelten die Zahl außerhäuslicher Aktivitäten und die Nutzung der lokalen Infrastruktur. Die kontroversen Leithypothesen stammen aus der ökologischen Gerontologie und der entwicklungspsychologischen Bindungstheorie. Strittig ist vor allem, welche Rolle das persönliche soziale Netzwerk für den Aktionsraum der Senioren spielt. Eine weitere Hypothese nimmt an, dass die soziale Unterstützung, mit der alte Menschen rechnen können, den Normen der Reziprozität unterliegt. Die Studie stützt sich auf eine Umfrage des Deutschen Jugendinstituts mit dem Titel „Lebensführung älterer Menschen” von 1993. Befragt wurden 4130 Deutsche im Alter zwischen 55 und 79 Jahren. Die Analysen beruhen auf mehrfaktoriellen Varianzanalysen. Die Ergebnisse bekräftigen in erster Linie die Annahmen der Bindungstheorie. Auch die Reziprozitätsthese findet Unterstützung.

Summary

The study asks for factors determining the activity space of the aged. Indicators of old people’s activity space are the number of their outdoor activites and their use of the local supply of public facilities. Controversial hypothese are won from ecological gerontology and psychological attachment theory. At issue in the first place is how personal social networks mold older people’s outdoor behavior. Another hypothesis assumes social support of the elderly to be exposed to the laws of reciprocity. The study makes use of a poll titled ”life-organization of older people” that was conducted by the German Youth Institute in 1993. Respondents were German 55- to 79-year-olds (N=4130). Analyses rely on multifactorial analyses of variance. Results back attachment theory and the reciprocity thesis.
