An unusual malposition of a central venous catheter in a partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection

Abstract

In anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, one or more pulmonary veins drain into the systemic circulation or right atrium. The clinical signs of the shunt between pulmonary and systemic circulation increase over a lifetime; thus, the abnormality is diagnosed late or remains undiagnosed. This case report demonstrates the rare left-sided partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage into the brachiocephalic vein complicated by the misplacement of a central venous catheter.
