Abstract

Aiming to further improve diesel engine fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions, we conducted tests of a newly devised rapidly operating secondary actuator that provides controllable multiple injection. Up to six shots per cycle were implemented under high-pressure injection. A high-speed camera and a flow rate metering system were used to obtain quantitative data regarding diesel spray and fuel flow dynamics. The advantages of the applied technique are very stable phasing, dwelling, duration, and dosing of multiple injection shots proved from data analysis.
