Abstract.

The intra-cavity amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in saturated amplification of nanosecond laser pulses in a 60-cm-aperture KrF laser amplifier is calculated. The experimentally observed high intrinsic efficiency and saturated pulse intensities are numerically simulated. By using the ASE code validated experimentally, high-efficiency energy extraction from a still larger-aperture amplifier for inertial-fusion-energy drivers is predicted.
