Abstract
Introduction
The relevance of the posture of the shoulder girdle in relation to its function and the function of the shoulder joint has been widely considered in the literature. From the literature, it can be deduced that a abnormal posture initiates a malfunction of the shoulder girdle and thus may be related to the emergence of dysfunctions and pathologies of the shoulder joint. Nevertheless, there are only a few and also incongruent definitions of normal shoulder girdle position and normative values of defined angles and distances. This article shows data of angles and distances of the shoulder girdle position of healthy volunteers.
Method
The data of the position of the shoulder girdle, has been detected by a standard procedure using a digital photometry program and described descriptively per Medcalc 12.3.0.
Results
The mean of the AC angle on the left side was 9.2° (SD 4.7°), on the right side 6.7° (SD 4.3°). The mean of the SR Angle on the left was -4.9° (SD 8.2°), on the right -2.9° (SD 8.3°). The mean of the distance between TS and WS left was 7.6 cm (SD 1.1 cm) and right 8 cm (SD 1.1 cm). The lower distance between AI and WS on the left with the mean of 7.6 cm (SD 1.4 cm) and right 8.2 cm (SD 1.2 cm) The mean of SK angle left was 15.2° (SD 6.3°) and right 14.4° (SD 6.7°).
Conclusion
The healthy subjects of this study showed slight asymmetries in their shoulder girdle position. The construct of the posture and the deviation from this should be scrutinized to determine when a deviation is relevant to the complaints of a patient.
