Abstract

Physical activity in old age is important as lack of physical activity can promote obesity. However, cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease, valvular diseases, heart failure and peripheral artery disease, potentially limit the capability to undertake physical activity in the elderly. It is of importance to identify these patients concerned and to refer them to a specialist in terms of appropriate diagnostics and therapy. Clinical and therapeutic aspects of (cardio)vascular diseases which limit physical activity are discussed.
