Notes
Sergei P. Novikov, a son of Pyotr S. Novikov, confirms that Luzin liked one of his father’s results so much that he decided to publish it in Comptes rendus under his own name. See Sergei P. Novikov, My Stories (In Russian), pp. 7–8, 57–58 at http://www.mi-ras.ru/~snovikov.
Other of Luzin’s former students—for example Pyotr S. Novikov, Lyudmila V. Keldysh, and Alexey A. Lyapunov—always had very good relations with their teacher. Greatly respecting him, they did not participate in the attacks during the Luzin case.
