Zusammenfassung

Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Veränderungen in der Rolle von Vätern auf der Folie gesamtgesellschaftlicher Veränderungen und weitgehender Umstrukturierungen in den Erziehungsprinzipien. Es wird deutlich, dass eine Veränderung in Richtung auf einen teilweise zu mütterlichen Vater unter deutlicher Ausblendung der erzieherischen Aufgaben für einen positiven Umgang mit Aggression stattgefunden hat. Der Rückgang von Macht und Autorität hat allerdings auch zu einer problematischen Zunahme von psychologischer Kontrolle geführt, deren schädliche Auswirkungen auf das Kindeswohl in den letzten Jahren verstärkt beforscht wurden. Väter sind heute mehr denn je im Dilemma der Verbindung von Beruf und familiären Pflichten, und insbesondere Väter kleiner Kinder sehen sich verstärkt in der Rolle des alleinigen „bread winner“ mit sehr hohen Wochenarbeitszeiten. Allerdings ist auch die Diversität von Vaterrollen und -funktionen gestiegen, und so finden sich sowohl sehr traditionelle Väter als auch solche, die Beruf und Familienzeit stärker verbinden; die Zahl der neuen Väter ist allerdings nach wie vor sehr gering. Die Konsequenzen für die therapeutische Arbeit werden herausgearbeitet.

Abstract

This contribution analyzes changes in the role of fathers, which are embedded in overall social changes and changes in parental attitudes and behavior. It shows a trend towards paternal warmth and involvement and a tendency to avoid paternal functions related to dealing with the child’s aggression. The decrease in power and authority has, however, resulted in an increase of psychological control, which is detrimental for the child’s outcome. Today, many fathers face the dilemma of combining work and paternal duties. In particular, fathers of small children are confronted with the breadwinner function and the highest work load, compared to fathers of older children. In general, diversity in fathers’ roles has increased with a high number of traditional fathers and also fathers who were able to balance work and family; “new fathers” are not frequent at all. The consequences for therapeutic work are discussed.
