We are pleased to welcome Dr Thomas Weiser of the USA, who has joined the WJS editorial board and will serve in the areas of critical care and trauma. He grew up in New York City. He attended medical school at the University of New Mexico and completed surgical training at University of California, Davis (California), and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston (Massachusetts). He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at Stanford University where he specializes in emergency general and trauma surgery, as well as surgical intensive care. His research focuses on quality and safety of surgical care, and strategies for improving the safety and reliability of surgical delivery. He was part of the World Health Organization’s Safe Surgery Saves Lives program where he helped quantify the global volume of surgery and create, implement, evaluate, and promote the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist. He is an avid swimmer.
