Dr Catherine Teh is a Filipino-Chinese surgeon who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. She did her general surgery training at the Chinese General Hospital and clinical fellowship in surgical oncology and hepatobiliary surgery at the National Cancer Center, Singapore and Singapore General Hospital, after which she pursued advanced minimally invasive surgery at the IRCAD in Strasbourg, France. Dr Teh then completed her preceptorship and diploma in hepatobiliary cancers at Centre Hepato-Biliaire in Paul Brousse Hospital in France.

Currently, she serves as Chief of the Hepatobiliary Surgery section at the Makati Medical Center, Director of the Surgical Improvement Program of the Philippine College of Surgeons Cancer Commission, President of the ASEAN Laparoscopic Hepatobiliary Council, and Chair of the Philippine Board of Hepatobiliary Surgery. She was the immediate past president of the Philippine Association of Hepatobiliary Surgeons, former Chair of the Department of Surgery and Director of the Liver Center at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. Her clinical research interests include liver cancers, laparoscopic liver surgery, hepatocellular cancer beyond BCLC A, fluorescence-guided surgery, patient safety, multidisciplinary approaches to cancer, diversity, women in hepatobiliary surgery, and resource-stratified management for cancer.

Outside of clinical work, Dr Teh raises her daughter single-handedly. She enjoys travelling and photography as well as painting, and she is an avid art collector. Her Twitter handle is @hpbsurgeon_1.
