Dr George Rakovich is from Montreal, Canada. He is Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and teaches at the University of Montreal School of Medicine, where he also did most of his training. His clinical practice spans the field of thoracic surgery, but his interests are focused on lung cancer and advanced minimally invasive techniques in particular. In partnership with École Polytechnique Montreal Engineering School, Dr. Rakovich supervises several graduate students and co-leads a research program investigating pulmonary and parenchymal resection staple line biomechanics, and he is currently developing a research program focusing on advanced imaging techniques, including augmented and virtual reality in lung surgery. Dr. Rakovich has previous experience in academic publishing and has served on the editorial boards of several biomedical journals, including the Canadian Respiratory Journal and the Canadian Journal of Respiratory, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He also holds a Master’s degree in medical education and has a keen interest in international medical education; he is involved in an ongoing collaboration with the medical school of the Catholic University of Ecuador in Quito, leading to student exchange opportunities and several other joint initiatives.

Dr Rackovich likes to see things from a broad perspective and is interested in the humanities, including history and philosophy. In fact, he has recently taken up courses in philosophy and joined a philosophy of medicine discussion group, which agrees well with his enthusiasm for bowties. Also, he enjoys playing several musical instruments, whether the classics on piano or more “contemporary” material on the electric guitar with his buddies from medical school; but be warned, he recently tried his hand at violin (ouch!).

Welcome Dr Rakovich and thank you in advance for your good service!
