The World Journal of Surgery is very pleased to announce that Olivier Soubrane, MD, will join our editorial team as our associate editor focused on hepatobiliary surgery, with a strong focus on liver surgery and science. Dr. Soubrane is a Professor of Surgery and chairs the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplant at Beaujon Hospital, Clichy, France. He received his training and fellowship in surgery in Paris and a postdoctoral fellowship in liver transplantation with Prof. Carlos Esquivel in San Francisco, CA, USA. He previously chaired the Department of Surgery at Cochin Hospital and the Department of HPB Surgery at St Antoine Hospital, both in Paris.

He has dedicated a significant period of time to research, leading a surgical research laboratory for ten years at Cochin Hospital and serving two terms on Surgery Committees for INSERM, the French National Agency for Research. His research interests include liver cancer, laparoscopic techniques for resection of liver tumors, and live donor hepatectomy. He reported the first laparoscopic left lateral sectionectomy in a live donor with Daniel Cherqui in 2002 and the first laparoscopic right hepatectomy in a live donor in 2013. As an academic surgeon, Dr. Soubrane is a member of the Editorial Board of Annals of Surgery and an invited reviewer for several international journals. He is a member of the International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association, International Liver Transplantation Society, and the European Surgical Association, and he is a founding member of the International Laparoscopic Liver Society (ILLS).

Dr. Soubrane will be replacing Dr. Jacques Belghiti and his associate François Cauchy of France, who will be rotating off the editorial board after having faithfully served as Associate Editor since 2013. Thank you, Jacques and François, and welcome Olivier!
