Welcome new statistical editor Ann A. Lazar of the USA to the World Journal of Surgery
The World Journal of Surgery is pleased to announce that Ann A. Lazar, PhD, of San Francisco, California, USA, has joined our internationally recognized editorial team as a statistical editor.
Dr. Lazar is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She obtained her PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Colorado Denver. She completed her two-year postdoctoral Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research fellowship award in Biostatistics at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She then completed a four-year training grant during her assistant professorship in oral health disparities at UCSF.
She is a member of the Biostatistics Core of the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Institute and the UCSF Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Dr. Lazar is an affiliate member of the Bakar Computational Health Science Institute and Center to Address Oral Health Disparities (CAN DO). She currently serves on the Advisory Board of the International Biometric Society, Western North American Region.
Dr. Lazar has been the recipient of many awards and research grants, including from the National Institutes of Health and various private and nonprofit foundations. Her research aims to develop rigorous biostatistical methods to identify subgroups of patients who may differ from the overall average group, known as heterogeneity of treatment effects. She is the PI of the Howard University and UCSF CAN DO Scholars Program. Dr. Lazar serves as a co-investigator on numerous team science initiatives, including clinical trials, preclinical and translational studies.
