This is an extremely accurate and complete book in an area of specialist interest, that of radiologists, dentists and other professionals operating at the oral and maxillofacial level.

The quality of the product is evident from the fact that we are in the third edition, published 7 years after the penultimate one, and from the fame of the authors with particular regard to Lisa J Koenig, Professor Emerita, Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology, Marquette University School of Dentistry, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With her they took charge of this edition, involving a wide series of further contributors, Dania Tamimi, operating privately in Orlando, Florida, with teaching activities at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, Stony Brook, New York, at Roseman University of Health Sciences, Henderson, Nevada, and at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, Texas; Susanne E. Perschbacher, Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada; Husniye Demirturk, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, also teaching at the Kocaeli Health and Technology University Faculty of Dentistry, Kocaeli, Turkey.

The update occurred firstly by increasing and improving the quality of the previous content, reiterated and/or implemented through an iconographic and bibliographic update, involving the anatomical description and the differential diagnostic evaluation. The improvement of images was made possible by technological evolution, which allowed better resolution and new methods of representation, as well as by the implementation of diagrams and drawings, which have acquired further and improved didactic value. To the contents based, in particular, on information and images obtained using CT and/or cone beam CT (CBCT), new topics have been added such as Artificial Intelligence, the use of ultrasounds in oral and maxillofacial radiology, a wider application of CBCT, a better evaluation of the problems related to sleep disorders breathing risks. The expansion also concerned the anatomical and clinical part, both with a new writing of some chapters and with a better presentation of some rarer pathologies, with particular reference to congenital ones of genetic interest.

The 1208 pages’ book, enriched with hundreds of images, diagrams and drawings, is organized into the following 4 parts: 1) Anatomy; 2) Imaging applications in oral maxillofacial region; 3) Diagnosis; 4) Differential diagnosis. Each of them is divided into sections and structured into dense and specific chapters, despite the presence of good readability not only by experts, but also by beginners, who have already gained a first expertise in the field. In fact the major didactic content is transferred by images more than by words.

As mentioned at the beginning, the book is intended for all those, already experts or in training, interested in radiological applications at the oral and maxillofacial level.
