Regarding the article:

Turan A, Kose O, Acar B, Unal M. Posterior tibial tendon impingement due to os subtibiale: a case report and up-to-date review. Skeletal Radiology. 2017 May 1;46(5):705–14.

It was with interest that I read the Turan et al. article having had an interesting case involving the deltoid ligament that was cited in this paper. Unfortunately, the mechanism attributed to my case was not the mechanism of injury that I reported - “In patients with repetitive eversion type ankle sprains, there may be ectopic ossification within the deltoid ligament [14].” In the case I reported on, the mechanism was direct trauma to the deltoid ligament [1]. The patient blocked a slapshot during an ice hockey game on the medial side of his ankle with a resultant ossification that continues to persist several years after the incident.

In an effort to reduce any confusion this discrepancy may cause, I wanted to write a letter to the editor so that this can be acknowledged. I would like to congratulate the authors on their article and thank them for the opportunity to clarify this minor inconsistency.

Yours truly,

Dr. Brad Muir
